For decades, I have often expressed to those who interact with me that the world must legalize all drugs: especially cocaine in our continent [North-South America], because its ban, the persecution of drug traffickers, and lethal confrontations to eradicate it or keep it in the clandestine market requires a huge investment both in police-official spheres and in illegal business. The discord and armed confrontations in populations where it is grown or processed is a tragedy. The detective struggle against the business and consumption of psychotropics has also corrupted spheres of politics, courts and the military in our countries.
The hypocritical motion to combat the distribution, sale and individual possession of cocaine is similar to what happened with alcohol in the US for a decade: banned in 1920 and legalized by President Roosevelt (1933).
To prohibit alcohol, they had to amend the US Constitution («Number 18») This caused the demand for the product to increase vertiginously and distillers or stills proliferated in every corner of the country. The basements of the buildings were turned into bars and gangs of criminals appeared, fighting for control of the contraband.
John D. Rockefeller, a famous figure from the American Millionaire Elite, recognized that the prohibition was a failed act of Congress that would only satisfy the demands of racists, ascetics and puritans. The Ku Klux Klan [white supremacy], the religious, feminists and even blacks who lived in rural areas adhered to the veto to no avail.
During the episodes when the Law was drafted, each citizen drank more or less 06 liters of liquor per year. The laws of the market are devastating: the exorbitant demand for any product drives up prices and deteriorates its quality.
An investigation by Columbia University Press, published in 1922, confirmed that, after the promulgation of what they ridiculously called the «Noble Experiment», the legion of worshipers of the mythological god Bacchus and intake grew and shielded the role of the mafias. The legendary outlaws [«gangster»] who inspired blockbuster films shot by the Hollywood Industry thrived: Al Capone and Bugs Moran. Casino owners and speakeasies, the pimps. There was financial bonanza and homicide rates fell. It seems unusual.
It is not that I make, through this opinion article, an apology for the trafficking and illicit consumption of narcotics. It is not my purpose to encourage disobedience or contempt of our laws. Reality overwhelms, puts each matter in its place, and in the face of it gibberish or legal-moralistic discourses do not serve to minimize it.
As long as cocaine and other drugs classified as «hard» are the reason for fatuous and hypocritical speeches at obsolete rallies, Political-Financial-Military Crime will remain strengthened and will exercise dominance over nations. Less inhuman beings are prone to mundane celebrations and rituals whose devotees like to dope. My motion is that each individual is responsible for his own destiny, choose how to lead his life, precipitate his misfortune or devise an orderly, peaceful and prosperous life.
